We had Cyndi look through the Sticks Desk Catalog for concepts, ideas, and colors to inspire her creative instincts. She enjoyed the idea of incorporating one of Sticks popular themes, the Four Seasons, into her design. Together, we collaborated on a “blueprint” to feature four individual landscapes, each representing one of the four seasons. Within each landscape we’d feature a tree as the focal point and within each tree we would see her beloved owls.
Cyndi’s color pallette was determined after reviewing many of the existing desk designs we had on our site, her favorite hues were on the earthy side, or warm tones, and she really liked how vibrant the accent colors looked in many of the illustrations. She wanted the words to be inscribed on the desk to be as personable as possible, and what better group of people to help with her glossary than her own family. So in a way you could say we worked with Cyndi’s parliament (another term to describe a group of owls). Hehe, Ok, Ok, that was the last owl pun. We promise. Whoo doesn’t like a good pun?
If you’re thinking about a Custom Sticks Design and need some inspiration, take a look at how we put together Cyndi’s ideas and communicated them to the artist. Wait until you see how cool her desk turned out.
First things first, what was the ITEM to base the design off of:
- Sticks Desk DSK009 all milled – built same as #4598
- Use same color as used in #8125
- Reference color from #5088: wood tones with splashes of color
- Wood tone checks based on palette
- Colors to mimic the section of the table top directly above it. For example, see #8125 where the drawer is the same color as what’s above it and the sides are the same color as the sides of the table.
- Each side, from front to back, should be divided into two equal halves. Each of the 4 sections created are to feature small seasonal landscapes. Central to each landscape should be a tree (themed to the season) to include an owl on a branch.
- Landscapes should not be mountainous. They should be more pastoral, rolling hills and flat lands
- Winter Owl to be a snowy owl.
- Surrounding the Main Center Workspace (see color notes for specific color) should be a checked border (see color notes)
- Apron Design – should feature Seasonal Design work
- Vine to continue across entire front apron so that it’s continuous when passing over the drawer
- Back Section under the shelf – small seasonal vive work to coordinate with apron
- Shelf Design – Main center image to be an Owl maybe in a circle or something.
- The rest of that shelf should feature a sky feel with celestial elements (Sun, moon, stars, etc.)
- Words – word border to be desk front, and sides (back is not necessary). If extra space is needed to accommodate her list, please add a word border to the shelf
- Primary (mostly in order, bolds are must haves)
- Mostest
- Count your blessings
- Wander woman
- Edelweiss
- Eat dessert first
- Just breathe
- Do what you like, like what you do
- Say 3 nice things
Cyndi received her beautiful Sticks item within 3 weeks after we submitted her Wise Owl Desk to the artist. If only we could have had a parliament of owls personally fly her desk to her home that would have been awesome. Perhaps next time we’ll have some owls at the ready. Step aside FedEx owls flying through!
