Take one look at Ralph Garrett’s whimsical furniture style and it’s easy to tell he’s a fun loving, creative guy. We’ve gotten to know Ralph well over the past 12 years and wanted to share some of his story with you. Whether it’s working closely with him to create the perfect custom cabinet for a clients home or just catching up over dinner, he embodies the idea of a true American Craftsman. Ralph’s mission is to create unique, handmade furniture that will evoke joy and thoughtfulness in everyone. So how did he come to form his company, Shoestring Creations? From an early age, Ralph loved to build things. He used whatever materials he could easily find or afford – on a “shoestring” budget. Even to this day, Ralph is proud to run an earth friendly company, using all possible scrap pieces with virtually no waste. Ralph is proud to say “ We build the best quality furniture, storage units, desks and shelving in America. We’re a proud Texas based company that constructs all of its products right here in the good old U.S.A.”
In our stores, we often explain to customers why Ralph’s pieces sometimes have a similar style to those from David Marsh. There’s good reason for that. Ralph learned the art of building furniture from his cousin, mentor, and friend, David Marsh. David recognized Ralph’s natural gift for furniture design and helped him understand the balance between just being creative and trying to run successful business that would feed his family. Ralph took this knowledge and headed out on his own, blending his hard work and artistic vision, with a “shoestring” mentality.
In recent years, Ralph has used his intricate knowledge of furniture building on a shoestring budget and offered his services to organizations in need. You’ll now find his handy work in Schools, Churches & Group Homes all over Texas.
Not to worry, Ralph could never give up the truly creative part of furniture making. He’s still very much dedicated to the work that made Shoestring Creations a must have for those looking to add color and fun to their living or work space.
